Intell Prop Legal Research
This course will introduce students to the practical resources and research methods associated with three main areas of U.S. and international intellectual property (IP) law - patent, trademark and copyright. With this knowledge, they can hit the ground running as IP interns or associates. The class will also be of interest for those in areas in which IP and administrative law resources play an important role, such as sports law, entertainment law and even general practice. Students will learn about the research imperatives for national and international patent, trademark and copyright searching. They will learn about the national and international databases necessary for patent, trademark and copyright research as well as new tools available for IP research. They will also learn new search techniques such as classification and image searching.
The class will be "flipped" with introductory instruction through pre-class videos so actual class time can be used for hands on exercises and discussions.
