LAW 7223 :
Pretrial Detention

This course will allow students to develop an understanding of the role of pretrial release and detention in the criminal and immigration contexts. We will also discuss how to litigate on behalf of clients seeking release from incarceration. In weekly class sessions, students will study the law and procedure of pretrial release and detention in both systems and the advocacy skills necessary to zealously represent individuals in bail hearings. Students will also observe pretrial hearings. If arrangements can be made, students may provide legal services to indigent clients under the supervision of Villanova faculty, which may include interviewing, counseling, and representing clients in bail hearings.
