LAW 7164 :
Employment Law

First, we will examine employment at will, including the meaning of employee and the contract and tort doctrines that have eroded the employment at will relationship. Then the course covers employee privacy rights, and employee duties. The course will then examine some basic principles of discrimination law under Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. We will conclude with an overview of worker's compensation and unemployment insurance. We will spend a few class sessions on the collective action and the obligations of employers and unions. The grade will be based on a final examination, class participation and writing exercises. Exam Info: Exam administered during exam period.
