LAW 7148 :
Human Trafficking

Restrictions: Enrollment is limited to 15 students. This course addresses the issue of human trafficking from the legal and policy perspective. The course goals include understanding, analyzing, and applying the state, federal, and international laws and policies surrounding human trafficking. This course explores the laws related to the various needs of human trafficking survivors, rhetoric and popular culture perceptions of human trafficking, and how to respond to the diverse physical, emotional, and psychological needs of survivors through trauma-informed lawyering skills. Attorneys are uniquely situated to impact changes in policies and laws to combat human trafficking because of the vast number of collateral legal consequences survivors face as a direct result of their trafficking victimization. Ultimately, rather than take a final exam, students will submit a paper comparing legal arguments that address the sex trade. Students will also complete a group presentation on a topic of their choice regarding sex trafficking. Exam Info: No Exam
