LAW 7050 :
Trial Advocacy - Basic

Prerequisite: Evidence (7024) or a co-requisite with permission from the professor via email. Correspondence must be forwarded to the VLS Registrar for Prerequisite Waiver before the end of the Add/Drop period. Students develop skills in trial preparation, techniques and tactics by handling simulated trial problems. Exercises include direct and cross examination of witnesses, the introduction of real and demonstrative evidence, examination of experts, opening statements and closing arguments. This course builds upon students' understanding of substantive law, procedural rules, evidence, ethics, drama, psychology and human nature to maximize success in the courtroom. The course culminates with a final trial in lieu of an exam. For Professor Byrd's and Professor Mooney's Sections: Prerequisite Evidence (LAW 7024) required. For Professor Glazer's and Professor O'Mara's Sections: Concurrent registration with Evidence (LAW 7024) is permitted without email approval through the Registrar. Exam Info: No Exam
